My 5 Month Old Little Man

Oh, N, you turned 5 months on Thursday.  I know that you want to write on our blog again, but you'll just have to wait until you turn 6 months.  I get to do it this month and I'm the mama, so there.  :)

Just one more month, little man, and you're halfway to your first birthday.  Where has the time gone?  In less than a month, you get to fly on a plane for the first time and to go your first wedding.  You'll also get to meet some special people for the first time.  :)

You weighed in at 15 lbs. 1.5 oz. on Thursday night.  You're a solid baby and I love it.  I love that you have chunky thighs and that you're nice and healthy.

You're wearing size 2 diapers and we buy what's on sale, so you wear lots of different brands.  The only brand we don't like so far is the Target brand.  They just don't fit you very well, which is sad because they are cute.

Some of your 3-6 month clothes still fit, but you are wearing most of your 6 months clothes. There are even a few 9 month items that you'll be in before too long.

We have to go see an eye doctor soon about your eyes.  I'm hoping that it won't be a big deal, but we'll love you no matter what.   We've tried patching your eye here at home and you could care less.  I love my little pirate.

You eat 4-5 ounces every three hours.  We've tried spacing your feedings out a little bit, but no, you're a boy who wants his food.   We moved you to soy formula when you got sick and we're going to try the normal again once your tummy chills out a little.

You've gotten to the point that if you're in my arms when I'm mixing your bottle, you get upset that you can't have it right that second.

You also know that if I have a drink in my hand, that you should be able to grab it and put it to your mouth.  No, you're not ready for Diet Coke or tea yet.

We tried you on rice cereal for a little while, but then you got the yucky virus, so we had to stop.  As soon as your tummy calms down, you'll be getting it again.

You had your shots and got sick.  We thought for a while that the shots made you sick, but now we're thinking that you got sick because of a virus.  It's been almost 3 weeks and you're still not back to your normal self.  You've had lots of tummy trouble and a fever.  This was no fun for any of us.  We're hoping that things are getting back to normal.

Your Daddy and I are convinced that you're teething.  We can't see any teeth, but man, you chew on everything.  You will chew on your paci and if I stick my finger in it, you actually hurt me because you're biting down on it so hard.  You like frozen ice packs and you are drooling like crazy.

You are still on the eat, play, sleep schedule.  You like to sleep, but sometimes you fight it.  You get really still and kinda zone out when you get sleepy.  I'll try getting you to sleep and about half the time, you drift right off to sleep.  The other half...not so much.   You'll scream like I'm hurting you and then you'll pass right out.  I don't mind it much when we're at home, but when you scream like that in public, you make people think that you're a terror.  Sometimes, you sleep for 30 minutes, other times you'll sleep for 2 hours.

You're still not sleeping through the night.  :(  I wish you would figure this out, but for some reason, you are a night owl and love to be up and hang out.  You did have your first night without your swaddler last night.  You didn't do too bad.  Daddy might say differently since he's the one who got up with you while Mommy slept.

You are a very social baby.  You love to watch other people and you love activity.  You seem to get bored if we stay at home all day.  You will go to other people, but there are times when you cry because you just want you mommy or daddy.

Mommy went back to work this week after a long summer vacation.  Besides being sick, you had a good week.  You spend Mondays through Wednesdays with Ms. Shannon and Bryant, Thursdays with your Daddy, and Fridays with your Trish.  I'm just thankful that you have such great people watching you.  They love you so much and I can't say that I blame them.  I like that they send me text pictures of you while I'm at work.

You can roll over both ways, but only when you want to.  There will be times that you are rolling over constantly, but when I try to show someone, you act like you have NO idea what you're supposed to do.

You are getting pretty good at sitting up.  You can do it for a while, but sooner or later, you've tipped to one side.  It won't be long before you've got it figured out.

You love to touch people's faces.  Just try not to scratch, okay?

You still enjoy your swing, bouncy seat, playmats, and bumbo.  You have figured out, though, how to get out of the bouncy seat and bumbo if you want out.  You love being in the stroller and taking walks.

You love to play with my cell phone and talk on the computer to your Nana and Papa.

You're getting ticklish, especially on your sides.  It's funny to watch your squirm.

Your daddy can make you smile more than any other person.  You LOVE him.

People stop us wherever we go to look at you and smile at you.  Again, you're a super social baby.

You've figured out how to play with the toys on your carseat.  You love to pull at them and put them in your mouth.  You've scared Mommy a few times by pulling on the frog and making it vibrate.

You love to hold on to things, whether it's a stuffed animal, blanket, or someone's hand.

You're going to be an outside kid.  If you're crying and we can't get you to stop, we can take you outside.  For some reason, you will get quiet and calm down.  Maybe it's because you didn't see the outside world until you were 6 weeks old....I don't know.

We love you, N!  Happy 5 months!  So happy that you're officially a VBK.
