Four (and a 1/2) Month Doctor's Visit

We had our four month appointment today, even though N is closer to 4 1/2 than 4.  We had just been out of town and busy with VBS, but better late than never.

We got there and checked in and waited for our names to be called.  N, since birth, has been on Medicaid which he got because of J.   Our health insurance will not cover him until we have his social security number and we can't petition to get that until we have our finalization which is next Thursday.  So, we learned today at his appointment that he's been dropped from Medicaid, meaning that at this moment, he has no health insurance. This is super frustrating since Dave had spoken to the Medicaid person and he was told that N could not lose coverage. So, needless to say, his appointment cost us $163.  :(  Big bummer.

The good news is that N is growing and developing on target.  His measurements:
Weight: 14 lbs. 9 oz.  25%
Height: 25 inches  25%
Head Circumference:  16.2 inches  10%

The issues with his kneecaps seems to be correcting themselves.  We're still going to have to watch them, but I'm thankful to hear that the aren't a concern.

He's still spitting up A LOT, but the doctors don't seem to be concerned since he continues to gain weight and grow appropriately.  We're just going to continue to do what we're doing.  In a few weeks, we're going to start trying him on rice cereal.  He's already getting a little in some of his bottles, but soon,  we'll be trying to give it to him with a spoon.

We do have one concern.  A few weeks ago, right before the trip to CIY, we noticed that he would go "cross-eyed" every now and then, especially with the left eye.  During the actual trip to CIY, it happened a lot and it continues to happen.  We've also noticed his eyes twitching.  We know that his biological father and his sister had/have a lazy eye, so we know that this is probably genetic.  The doctor said that most babies are cross-eyed, but that they both go in at the same amount.  N's left eye goes in more than the right, which leads to the concern.  She feels that is is something called esotropia, something that shows up in babies between 3-6 months.  The doctor gave us a referral to an eye doctor, but because of our insurance fun, we need to wait until he's fully covered before we take him.  I did some research and it seems that they have three things that could help his eye.  They could use a patch to strengthen the weaker eye, he could need glasses, or he could need surgery.  So, hopefully, we'll be able to get him on our insurance quickly and without any issues and be able to take him soon.

N got three shots today and an oral vaccine.  The shots seem to catch him off guard and make him cry, but he screams so much more during his fits that his crying after the shots is no big deal.  He's easily consoled.

The doctor visit wore him out.  He fell asleep soon after we got into the car and slept for almost 2 hours in his car seat.  :)  Our next appointment with his pediatrician will be at 6 months.

Cam had the same problem with his eyes and a patch helped. Now, he has good control over them and actually moves his right one in to be funny (which we're making him stop b/c the muscle doesn't need to be strengthened anymore):) I love reading your posts and seeing pics of the little guy - he's so darn cute!

Chris had eye therapy for his "lazy" eye. It worked for him. He was a bit older than Nate though. Sue
